Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Local Laws Officer with a primary focus on animal management and parking enforcement. This role is crucial in upholding community standards, ensuring public safety, and managing compliance with local government regulations within the Rockhampton region. You will be responsible for investigating complaints, educating the public, and enforcing relevant local laws and state legislation, particularly those relating to companion animals and vehicle parking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and respond to public complaints regarding animal management and parking infringements.
  • Conduct patrols to identify and address non-compliance with local laws and regulations.
  • Manage impounded animals, including welfare checks, liaising with shelters, and facilitating reclaims or rehoming.
  • Issue warnings, infringement notices, and official notices where necessary.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and maintain accurate records of investigations and enforcement actions.
  • Provide advice and education to the public on local laws, responsible pet ownership, and parking regulations.
  • Participate in community engagement programs and initiatives.
  • Represent Council in court proceedings as required.
  • Operate and maintain Council vehicles and equipment safely and effectively.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in a regulatory compliance, enforcement, or animal management role.
  • Strong understanding of relevant local laws and state legislation pertaining to animal management and parking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle challenging situations professionally.
  • Proficiency in record keeping and report writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Current Queensland C Class Driver's License.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or similar qualification.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Experience with animal handling and welfare practices.
  • Knowledge of local government operations and community services.
