Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Canal & Waterway Maintenance Crew. This is an outdoor government role offering stable employment and the opportunity to contribute directly to the health and beauty of Wilmington’s crucial canals and waterways. No prior experience is required; we provide comprehensive training for motivated individuals eager to learn and work in a hands-on environment. You will be an integral part of a team responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of our aquatic infrastructure, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for all.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine debris removal from canals, waterways, and adjacent areas.
- Conduct vegetation management, including trimming, clearing, and removal of invasive species.
- Operate various hand and power tools safely and efficiently (e.g., weed eaters, trimmers, shovels, rakes).
- Assist with minor repairs and upkeep of waterway structures, such as banks, culverts, and access points.
- Monitor water quality and report any unusual conditions or potential hazards.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and guidelines for outdoor work and equipment operation.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.

- Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications
