Job Description
Are you passionate about live events and eager to get hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of production? Mills James is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Live Event Rigging & Staging Intern to join our production team in Columbus, Ohio. This entry-level internship offers an unparalleled opportunity to learn the fundamentals of event rigging, staging, and production from industry experts. No prior experience is required – we provide comprehensive training and mentorship to help you build a solid foundation in live event operations.
As an intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting the successful execution of various live events, from corporate conferences to entertainment spectaculars. You’ll gain practical experience with equipment setup, safety protocols, and the collaborative effort required to bring a vision to life. This is an on-site position where you will be actively involved in the physical demands and dynamic environment of live event production.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the safe and efficient setup and teardown of rigging and staging equipment for live events.
- Learn and apply fundamental rigging techniques, including proper knot tying, hardware usage, and load distribution.
- Support the staging team in the assembly and placement of stage elements, backdrops, and scenic pieces.
- Help with the maintenance, inspection, and inventory of rigging, staging, and production equipment.
- Adhere strictly to all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
- Work collaboratively with production managers, technicians, and other crew members to achieve event objectives.
- Perform general production support tasks as needed, contributing to the overall success of the event.
- Actively participate in training sessions and seek opportunities for continuous learning and skill development.
Required Skills
- Eagerness to learn and a strong interest in live event production, rigging, or staging.
- Excellent work ethic, reliability, and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a team environment.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work in various environments (e.g., elevated heights, varying temperatures).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or certificate in Production, Technical Theatre, Event Management, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of hand and power tools (training will be provided).
- Prior experience in a physically demanding role or volunteer work in events is a plus, but not required.
