Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Community Development Officer to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial in supporting the planning, development, and implementation of community development initiatives and projects across the Latrobe City region. You will work closely with diverse community groups, local organizations, and internal stakeholders to identify needs, build capacity, and empower residents. This position requires strong communication skills, a proactive approach, and a commitment to fostering positive community outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with community groups, residents, and stakeholders to identify community needs, aspirations, and opportunities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement community development projects and programs, ensuring alignment with Council strategies.
  • Facilitate workshops, meetings, and events to promote community participation and collaboration.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal departments, external agencies, and local community organizations.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and funding applications related to community development initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and projects, recommending adjustments as needed.
  • Provide advice and support to community groups on governance, funding, and project management.
  • Advocate for community interests and ensure diverse voices are heard in decision-making processes.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in community development, social planning, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and implement community projects effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and collaborative relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Current Victorian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Community Development, Social Work, Human Services, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within a local government context.
  • Knowledge of the Latrobe Valley community and its unique social dynamics.
  • Experience in grant writing and funding acquisition.
