Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Music Director / Band Teacher to lead our comprehensive instrumental music program. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing various bands, teaching music theory and practical skills, and cultivating a dynamic and engaging learning environment. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive instrumental music curriculum for various age groups and skill levels.
- Direct and rehearse multiple bands, including concert bands, jazz ensembles, and smaller instrumental groups.
- Teach individual and group lessons on a variety of band instruments.
- Organize and oversee all aspects of musical performances, concerts, and competitions.
- Mentor students in developing their musical talents, performance skills, and appreciation for diverse musical genres.
- Collaborate with other arts faculty to create interdisciplinary projects and performances.
- Manage and maintain musical instruments, equipment, and the music department inventory.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and administration regarding student progress and program activities.
- Participate in school-wide events, faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
- Proven experience in directing and teaching instrumental music (e.g., band, orchestra).
- Expertise in at least two band instruments, with proficiency in a wide range of instrumental families.
- Strong pedagogical skills and a passion for teaching and inspiring students.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
- Knowledge of music theory, history, and various teaching methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Music Education or a related field.
- Teacher certification or license in Newfoundland and Labrador (or eligibility for provincial certification).
- Experience with music technology and digital audio workstations (DAW).
- Previous experience as a Music Director or lead Band Teacher in an educational setting.
- Demonstrated ability to write and arrange music for various ensembles.
