Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Aquarium & Exotic Pet Store Assistant to join our team. This role is perfect for individuals with a love for animals and a desire to learn about the specialized care required for aquatic life and various exotic pets. You will play a crucial role in maintaining animal habitats, assisting customers with their pet and product needs, and contributing to the overall success of our retail environment. Full training will be provided to the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily animal care tasks, including feeding, cleaning enclosures, and monitoring the health of fish, reptiles, small mammals, and exotic birds.
- Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of aquariums, terrariums, and other animal habitats.
- Assist customers with product selection, pet care advice, and troubleshooting common issues related to aquariums and exotic pets.
- Process sales transactions accurately and handle cash and card payments.
- Receive, unpack, and stock merchandise, ensuring shelves are organized and well-presented.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
- Educate customers on responsible pet ownership, habitat requirements, and nutritional needs.
- Perform water quality testing for aquariums and provide recommendations to customers.
- Handle live animal shipments and ensure proper acclimation and housing.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated passion for animals and their well-being.
- Strong willingness to learn about aquarium maintenance and exotic pet care.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented retail environment.
- Basic computer proficiency for point-of-sale systems.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with animals (e.g., volunteer, personal pet ownership, pet sitting).
- Prior retail or customer service experience.
- Knowledge of various fish species, reptiles, small mammals, or exotic birds.
- Familiarity with aquarium equipment and water chemistry.
