Job Description

North Idaho College is seeking a dedicated and culturally sensitive International Student Advisor to join our Student Services team. This critical role is responsible for providing comprehensive advising and support services to our international student population, ensuring their academic success, personal well-being, and compliance with U.S. immigration regulations. The advisor will serve as a primary contact for international students, guiding them through various processes from admission to graduation and beyond. This position requires a proactive approach to student support, a strong understanding of federal immigration policies, and a passion for intercultural communication and understanding. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and guidance to international students on U.S. immigration regulations (F-1 visa, OPT, CPT) and compliance.
  • Process and manage immigration documents, including I-20s, SEVIS records, and other necessary forms.
  • Conduct comprehensive orientation programs for new international students, covering immigration, academic, and cultural adjustment topics.
  • Offer academic, personal, and career advising to international students, connecting them with campus resources as needed.
  • Organize and facilitate cultural events, workshops, and social activities to promote community integration and cross-cultural understanding.
  • Serve as a liaison between international students, college departments, and external government agencies (e.g., SEVP, USCIS).
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records in compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies.
  • Collaborate with Admissions, Financial Aid, and Academic departments to ensure seamless support for international students.
  • Stay current with changes in immigration laws and regulations affecting international students.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, International Relations, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with international students or in a related advising capacity.
  • Thorough knowledge of U.S. F-1 visa regulations, SEVIS database, and immigration policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural communication, and advising skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and student information systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience living, studying, or working abroad.
  • Fluency in a second language.
  • Experience with student information systems (e.g., Colleague, Banner) and SEVIS reporting.
