Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Ecological Restorer to join our dynamic team in Launceston. This role is crucial for implementing on-ground restoration projects, contributing to the recovery of native flora and fauna, and enhancing ecosystem function across various sites in Tasmania. The successful candidate will be involved in all stages of restoration, from planning and site assessment to practical implementation and monitoring. Key Responsibilities

  • Execute on-ground ecological restoration activities including weed control (manual and chemical), native plant propagation and planting, erosion control, and habitat enhancement.
  • Conduct site assessments to identify ecological values, threats, and restoration priorities.
  • Operate and maintain a range of field equipment safely and effectively.
  • Monitor restoration project progress, collect data, and contribute to reporting on ecological outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with team members, contractors, and community volunteers.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist with planning and logistical coordination for field campaigns.
  • Maintain detailed records of field activities, observations, and data collected.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in ecological restoration or land management practices.
  • Proficiency in native plant identification and weed species recognition.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and rugged terrain.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Current Australian Driver's License.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental legislation and best practice guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Ecology, Conservation, or a related field.
  • Experience with GIS software for mapping and data analysis.
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • Experience operating quad bikes, tractors, or other relevant machinery.
  • Knowledge of Tasmanian flora, fauna, and ecological communities.
