Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Cost Engineering Lead – Major Infrastructure to join our dynamic team in Tuggeranong, ACT. This is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the cost engineering function for complex, large-scale infrastructure projects across Australia. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the financial viability and cost-effectiveness of our projects from inception through to completion, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of Australia’s infrastructure landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of cost engineering across major infrastructure projects, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to best practices.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive cost management systems, processes, and procedures.
- Conduct detailed cost estimating, budgeting, and forecasting throughout the project lifecycle.
- Perform quantitative risk analysis and contingency planning to mitigate financial risks.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on cost-related matters to project managers, clients, and senior leadership.
- Oversee contractor cost proposals and variations, ensuring fair and accurate assessments.
- Mentor and develop junior cost engineers and project control professionals.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including design, procurement, and construction, to optimize project value and cost efficiency.
- Prepare and present regular cost reports, analyses, and recommendations to stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Minimum 10 years of experience in cost engineering or project controls, specifically within major infrastructure projects (e.g., transport, energy, water, telecommunications).
- Demonstrated experience in leading cost engineering teams and functions on large, complex projects.
- Advanced proficiency in cost estimation methodologies, earned value management, and cost control techniques.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and develop strategic recommendations.
- Expertise in project cost management software (e.g., Primavera P6, SAP, specialist estimating tools).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as Certified Cost Professional (CCP) by AACE International, RICS, or equivalent.
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering or management discipline.
- Experience with Australian infrastructure projects and local regulatory frameworks.
- Proven track record of successfully delivering projects within budget constraints.
