Job Description
Join ATCO as a Trench Digging Laborer in Cochrane, AB, where you’ll perform essential manual labor for our utility infrastructure projects. This physically demanding role offers high compensation for hard work. You will be responsible for manually excavating trenches, shoveling various materials, and assisting with the installation of pipes and cables. No prior experience is required; we provide comprehensive on-the-job training. We are seeking individuals with exceptional physical stamina, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to safety, ready to work outdoors in all weather conditions as part of a dedicated team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manually excavate and backfill trenches, ditches, and holes using shovels and other hand tools.
- Shovel, spread, and compact materials such as earth, gravel, and sand.
- Assist in the laying of pipes, cables, conduits, and other utility infrastructure components.
- Load and unload construction materials, tools, and equipment at job sites.
- Operate basic hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Strictly adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
- Work collaboratively and effectively as part of a construction crew.
- Perform other laboring and utility-related duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Skills
- Exceptional physical strength, stamina, and endurance for repetitive manual tasks.
- Ability to work long hours outdoors in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow).
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive, 'can-do' attitude.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions accurately.

- Comfortable working in dusty, noisy, and potentially hazardous environments.
- Punctual and reliable attendance record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in construction, landscaping, or general manual labor is an asset.
- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) certification.
