Job Description
We are seeking a visionary and dynamic Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead our technological innovation and strategy. The CTO will be instrumental in shaping the future of Union Pacific’s digital landscape, driving our technological roadmap, and overseeing the development and implementation of cutting-edge solutions that enhance efficiency, safety, and our competitive advantage. This role requires a leader who can inspire and manage global technical teams, foster a culture of innovation, and ensure our technology infrastructure supports our expansive operational needs while embracing global talent and diverse perspectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with the company's business objectives and long-term vision.
- Lead and mentor a global team of engineers, developers, and IT professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Oversee the design, development, and deployment of critical technology platforms and systems, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
- Identify and evaluate new technologies, trends, and opportunities to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge in the transportation industry.
- Manage the technology budget, resources, and vendor relationships effectively.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices for data security and privacy.
- Collaborate closely with executive leadership to integrate technology initiatives with overall business strategy.
- Drive digital transformation efforts, including automation, artificial intelligence, and data analytics across all operational areas.
- Champion an environment that supports and integrates talent from diverse global backgrounds.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a senior technology leadership role (e.g., CTO, VP of Engineering, Head of Technology).
- Deep expertise in enterprise architecture, software development methodologies, and cloud platforms.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and data privacy regulations.
- Exceptional leadership and team-building skills with experience managing large, geographically dispersed or global teams.
- Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to drive technological innovation and digital transformation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant technical or business discipline.
- Experience in the transportation, logistics, or railroad industry.
- Familiarity with IoT, AI/ML, and advanced data analytics in an operational context.
- Experience with agile development methodologies at scale.
- Certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) or IT governance (e.g., ITIL).
