Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Highway & Traffic Engineer to join our dynamic team in Lancaster, PA. This role is crucial for delivering comprehensive transportation infrastructure projects from conceptual design through to construction. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, analysis, and implementation of highway and traffic engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex highway design tasks, including geometric design, pavement design, drainage analysis, and utility coordination.
- Conduct traffic engineering studies, including capacity analysis, signal timing, signing and pavement marking, and traffic impact assessments.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents for various transportation projects.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory agencies to ensure project success and compliance.
- Utilize advanced engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Synchro, VISSIM) for design and analysis.
- Participate in client meetings, public hearings, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Assist in project management activities, including scheduling, budgeting, and quality control.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes in highway and traffic engineering.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in highway design and/or traffic engineering.
- Proficiency in industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state (especially PennDOT), and local transportation design standards and specifications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain one within 6-12 months.
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation Engineering.
- Experience with traffic simulation software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, HCS).
- Familiarity with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and smart city initiatives.
- Prior experience working on PennDOT projects.
