Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Traffic & Transportation Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team in Greenville, SC. This entry-level internship provides a unique opportunity for students to gain practical experience in the field of traffic and transportation engineering, with a specific focus on highway projects. The intern will support our engineering staff in various tasks, learning about project lifecycle, design principles, data analysis, and regulatory compliance. This role is ideal for individuals eager to apply academic knowledge in a professional setting and contribute to infrastructure development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers with data collection, analysis, and report preparation for traffic studies.
  • Support the design team in developing transportation plans and highway layouts using CAD software.
  • Conduct research on traffic patterns, safety regulations, and relevant engineering standards.
  • Prepare technical documentation, memos, and presentations under supervision.
  • Perform calculations and analyses related to traffic flow, capacity, and signal timing.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other team members on various project tasks.
  • Participate in site visits and field investigations as needed to gather project information.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong academic record and a genuine interest in transportation and highway design.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and design concepts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and take initiative.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other relevant CAD software.
  • Prior coursework in transportation engineering, traffic operations, or highway design.
  • Experience with traffic simulation software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM) is a plus.
  • Active participation in relevant student organizations (e.g., ITE, ASCE).
