Job Description
Are you passionate about maps, data visualization, and exploring the world through a geographic lens? GeoConnect Innovations is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Cartography & Spatial Data Intern to join our team in Danbury, CT. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for students or recent graduates eager to gain hands-on experience in GIS, spatial analysis, and cartographic design. You will work alongside experienced professionals, contributing to real-world projects and developing valuable skills in a dynamic environment. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, organization, and maintenance of spatial datasets.
- Support the design and production of high-quality maps and other cartographic products using GIS software.
- Perform basic spatial analysis to extract insights from geographic data.
- Contribute to data quality assurance and validation efforts.
- Learn and apply best practices in cartographic design and data management.
- Document processes and methodologies used in projects.
- Collaborate with team members on various GIS-related tasks and projects.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of geographic concepts and principles.
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) or a strong willingness to learn quickly.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data visualization tools or graphic design software.
- Exposure to programming languages like Python for scripting GIS tasks.
- Previous coursework or projects involving cartography or spatial data.
