Job Description
Are you ready to make a critical impact on public safety this winter? ABM Industries is seeking dedicated and reliable Seasonal Snow Plow / Gritter Drivers to join our team for an essential public sector contract in Allentown, PA. As a key member of our operations, you will be responsible for operating heavy equipment to clear snow and ice from roads, parking lots, and designated public areas, ensuring safe passage for commuters and emergency services. This is a vital seasonal role that requires flexibility, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work during adverse weather conditions, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Full training on specific equipment and routes will be provided to ensure you are fully prepared to tackle winter’s challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate snow plows, salt spreaders, and other gritting equipment safely and efficiently.
- Clear snow and ice from assigned public roads, sidewalks, and parking areas according to established routes and service agreements.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment; report any mechanical issues or damage promptly.
- Load and unload de-icing materials (salt, sand, etc.) as needed.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, traffic laws, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate records of routes, hours, and materials used.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding progress, challenges, and completion of tasks.
- Be available for on-call shifts and extended hours during snow events, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an airbrake endorsement (if required for equipment).
- Clean driving record with no major infractions.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and protocols.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
- Reliability and punctuality, especially during critical weather events.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating snow removal equipment or heavy machinery.
- Familiarity with the road networks and geographical areas within Allentown and the wider Lehigh Valley region.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for minor equipment troubleshooting.
- Previous experience working seasonal contracts or in public works.
