Job Description
LANTA is seeking dedicated and vigilant individuals to join our team as Public Transit Security Officers. This is a full-time, on-site position offering shift work and comprehensive benefits. As a vital part of our operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of passengers, employees, and property across our transit network in Allentown, PA. We are committed to providing a safe and reliable public transportation experience for our community. Full training will be provided to equip successful candidates with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in this crucial role.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol and monitor LANTA transit properties, including bus stops, stations, and depots, to deter criminal activity and ensure a secure environment.
- Observe and report any suspicious activities, unsafe conditions, or violations of transit policies.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, disturbances, and calls for assistance, coordinating with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
- Enforce LANTA's rules and regulations to maintain order and ensure passenger compliance.
- Provide assistance and information to passengers, offering a visible and reassuring presence.
- Conduct thorough investigations and complete detailed, accurate incident reports for all security-related events.
- Operate and monitor surveillance equipment to detect and document security breaches or incidents.
- Work various shifts, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays, to provide 24/7 security coverage.
- Collaborate with other security personnel, transit staff, and local authorities to enhance overall safety protocols.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to obtain and maintain relevant security certifications and licenses as required by state and local regulations (full training provided)
- Strong observational and analytical skills to identify potential security threats and react appropriately
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with passengers, staff, and report writing
- Proven ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive in stressful or emergency situations
- Physical capability to perform job duties, including extended periods of standing, walking, patrolling, and occasional lifting
- Basic computer proficiency for report generation and communication
- Willingness and flexibility to work a varied shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, military, or a related field
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR
- Familiarity with public transit systems and operations
- Demonstrated customer service experience
