Job Description
Are you looking for a rewarding career that keeps our community moving? MARTA is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Transit Operators / Bus Drivers in Training. No prior bus driving experience is required – we offer comprehensive, paid training to equip you with all the skills needed to become a professional and safe bus operator. Upon successful completion of our training program, you will transition into a full-time Transit Operator role.
Key Responsibilities
- Successfully complete a paid, comprehensive training program to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements.
- Learn and adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic laws, as well as MARTA's operational policies and procedures.
- Operate transit buses safely and efficiently over designated routes, ensuring timely service.
- Provide excellent customer service, including assisting passengers with boarding and alighting, answering questions, and announcing stops.
- Collect fares, issue transfers, and inspect fare media.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus and report any mechanical defects or safety concerns.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, representing MARTA positively.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents according to established protocols.
- Adhere to strict safety standards and promote a safe environment for all passengers.
Required Skills
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Georgia Driver's License with a good driving record (no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years, no DUI/DWI in the past 5 years)
- Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, drug screen, and background check
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Customer service oriented mindset
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Commitment to safety and punctuality
- Ability to learn and retain complex information and procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a customer-facing role
- Familiarity with the Atlanta metropolitan area
