Job Description
Micron Technology is seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious Theoretical Physics Research Intern to join our advanced research team in Boise, ID. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects at the intersection of fundamental physics and practical technological applications. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced researchers, applying theoretical models and computational methods to explore new phenomena, analyze complex systems, and develop innovative solutions in areas such as quantum materials, condensed matter physics, and advanced computing architectures. This role is ideal for students eager to gain hands-on experience in industrial research, develop their analytical skills, and make tangible contributions to future technologies. Full training and mentorship will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and application of theoretical models to understand physical phenomena relevant to Micron's research areas.
- Conduct literature reviews to identify relevant theoretical frameworks and experimental data.
- Perform numerical simulations and data analysis using various computational tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Julia).
- Collaborate with senior researchers on ongoing projects, contributing to experimental design and interpretation.
- Prepare clear and concise reports, presentations, and documentation of research findings.
- Participate in team meetings and present progress and results.
Required Skills
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Physics, Theoretical Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Strong foundational understanding of classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, and statistical mechanics.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language for scientific computing (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Julia).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with quantum computing principles, condensed matter theory, or computational physics techniques.
- Experience with numerical methods for solving differential equations or performing simulations.
- Previous research experience in an academic or industrial setting (e.g., lab projects, summer research programs).
- Knowledge of specific software packages relevant to theoretical physics (e.g., DFT codes, quantum chemistry packages).
