Job Description

Join our dedicated team as a Zookeeper / Exotic Animal Specialist and contribute to the well-being and enrichment of our diverse animal collection. This challenging yet rewarding role involves daily animal care, habitat maintenance, behavioral enrichment, and visitor engagement. We are looking for passionate individuals who are committed to animal welfare and conservation. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily feeding, watering, and husbandry tasks for assigned animal collections.
  • Monitor animal health, behavior, and social dynamics, reporting any concerns to veterinary staff.
  • Clean and maintain animal exhibits, enclosures, and holding areas to high standards of hygiene and safety.
  • Implement and evaluate animal enrichment programs to promote natural behaviors.
  • Assist with animal training programs for husbandry, medical procedures, and public demonstrations.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of animal care, observations, and treatments.
  • Engage with zoo visitors, answering questions and providing educational information about animals and conservation.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, institutional policies, and animal welfare regulations.
  • Participate in facility improvements and special projects as needed.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated passion for animal welfare and conservation.
  • Ability to observe and interpret animal behavior accurately.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency for record-keeping.
  • Ability to follow strict safety protocols and procedures.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States upon sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, or a related field.
  • Previous experience (volunteer, intern, or paid) working with exotic animals in a zoological setting.
  • Knowledge of operant conditioning and animal training techniques.
  • Experience with advanced life support systems for aquatic or reptile species.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
