Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and empathetic Public Revenue Collection Agent to join our dedicated Finance Department. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely collection of public revenues, ensuring compliance with municipal codes and state regulations, and providing exceptional customer service to our citizens. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain accurate records of accounts receivable and overdue payments.
- Communicate effectively with taxpayers via phone, email, and in-person to resolve outstanding balances.
- Negotiate and establish equitable payment plans in accordance with city policies.
- Provide clear, concise information regarding payment options, deadlines, and city regulations.
- Process payments and maintain strict confidentiality of financial information.
- Identify and investigate discrepancies in accounts and collaborate with other departments for resolution.
- Prepare reports on collection activities and outstanding balances for management review.
- Ensure all collection activities adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in customer service, administrative support, or a related field.
- Proficiency in basic mathematics and data entry.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Basic computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Previous experience in collections, finance, or government administration.
- Familiarity with municipal billing systems or financial software.
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
