Job Description
Are you passionate about cutting-edge technology and environmental stewardship? Northumbrian Water Group is seeking a dedicated Public Utilities Drone Pilot Trainee to join our innovative team. This is an unparalleled entry-level opportunity to learn aerial surveying techniques from the ground up, utilizing state-of-the-art drone technology to monitor and maintain critical public utility infrastructure across the North East. No prior drone piloting experience is required – we provide comprehensive training, guidance, and support to help you achieve your A2 Certificate of Competency (A2 CofC) or General Visual Line of Sight Certificate (GVC) and become a skilled drone operator. You will play a vital role in ensuring the efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance of our water and wastewater networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a comprehensive training program to achieve drone piloting qualifications (A2 CofC/GVC).
- Assist experienced drone pilots with pre-flight checks, mission planning, and data collection.
- Learn to operate various drone platforms safely and effectively under supervision.
- Support the processing and analysis of aerial imagery and data for utility asset inspection.
- Adhere strictly to all aviation regulations, company safety protocols, and operational procedures.
- Maintain drone equipment, ensuring it is in optimal working condition.
- Document flight logs, incident reports, and data acquisition details accurately.
- Collaborate with engineering, environmental, and operations teams to understand surveying requirements.
Required Skills
- Strong enthusiasm for technology, particularly drones and their applications.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive, safety-conscious mindset.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and learn quickly.
- Good problem-solving skills and a positive attitude.
- Valid UK Driving License (essential for travel to various operational sites).
- Eligibility to obtain UK drone qualifications (A2 CofC or GVC) – full training provided.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse team.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
Preferred Qualifications
- GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent vocational qualifications.
- Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Previous experience with photography, videography, or GIS software is a plus, but not essential.
