Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Venture Capital Principal to join our team in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to play a pivotal role in identifying, evaluating, and executing strategic investments in groundbreaking startups across various sectors. As a Principal, you will be instrumental in sourcing new deals, conducting thorough due diligence, structuring investment terms, and actively supporting our portfolio companies to achieve their growth objectives. This position is ideal for a seasoned professional with a passion for innovation and a proven track record in the venture capital or private equity space, seeking to make a significant impact within a leading financial institution’s innovation ecosystem. Key Responsibilities
- Lead deal sourcing and origination efforts, identifying promising startups aligned with RBC Ventures' investment theses.
- Conduct comprehensive due diligence, including market analysis, competitive landscaping, technology assessment, financial modeling, and management team evaluation.
- Negotiate and structure complex investment terms, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and risk parameters.
- Provide active post-investment support to portfolio companies, offering strategic guidance, operational insights, and leveraging RBC's network.
- Develop and refine investment theses, staying abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and emerging market opportunities.
- Prepare detailed investment memos and present recommendations to the investment committee.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with founders, entrepreneurs, co-investors, and other key stakeholders in the venture ecosystem.
- Represent RBC Ventures at industry events, conferences, and startup pitch sessions.
Required Skills
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in venture capital, private equity, or corporate development with a focus on early to growth-stage investments.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial modeling, valuation techniques, and deal structuring.
- Strong analytical capabilities and a data-driven approach to investment decision-making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely.
- Proven ability to build and maintain robust professional networks.
- Deep understanding of technology trends and specific industry verticals relevant to RBC's strategic interests (e.g., FinTech, AI, SaaS, Climate Tech).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- An MBA or CFA designation.
- Prior entrepreneurial experience or experience working directly within a startup environment.
- Established network within the Canadian venture capital and startup ecosystem.
- Experience with international investment or cross-border deal execution.
- Multilingual abilities, particularly French.
