Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Public Health Nurse to join our team in Osoyoos, British Columbia. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments and screenings for individuals, families, and groups across the lifespan.
- Administer immunizations according to established protocols and provide education on vaccine-preventable diseases.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion and disease prevention programs tailored to community needs.
- Provide health education and counseling on a wide range of public health topics, including maternal-child health, communicable disease control, sexual health, and chronic disease management.
- Collaborate effectively with community partners, healthcare professionals, and government agencies to address public health priorities.
- Perform case management for clients with complex health needs, offering guidance and connecting them with appropriate resources.
- Participate in public health emergency preparedness and response activities to protect community health during crises.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely client records in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
- Advocate for healthy public policy and social determinants of health to improve population health outcomes.
Required Skills
- Active registration or eligibility for registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Demonstrated strong assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation skills within a public health framework.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and effectively engage with diverse populations.
- Proven ability to work both independently and as a valued member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Sound critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and decision-making skills in varied public health contexts.
- Basic computer proficiency, including experience with electronic health records and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs and values of diverse communities, including Indigenous populations.
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for community outreach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s degree in Public Health or Nursing.
- Previous experience in a public health setting, community health, or primary care.
- Knowledge of current public health legislation, policies, and best practices in British Columbia.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations or specific age groups (e.g., maternal-child, youth, seniors).
- Ability to speak a second language relevant to the local community (e.g., Okanagan, Punjabi, German).
