Job Description
Are you passionate about food and eager to learn the intricate art of cheese? Whole Foods Market is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Artisan Cheesemonger Trainee to join our specialty team. This entry-level position offers comprehensive hands-on training in cheese affinage, retail operations, and customer service. No prior experience is required—we provide all the knowledge and skills you’ll need to become a skilled cheesemonger. You will work directly with our experienced team to understand different cheese varieties, proper handling, cutting, wrapping, and merchandising techniques, all while engaging with customers to share your growing expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a structured training program to learn about various cheese types, regions, and production methods.
- Learn and practice proper techniques for cutting, weighing, and wrapping cheese to customer specifications.
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the cheese counter, including proper rotation and storage.
- Engage with customers, providing recommendations, samples, and information about our artisan cheese selection.
- Learn about food safety protocols and ensure adherence to all health and sanitation guidelines.
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving, stocking, and quality checking cheese deliveries.
- Support the team in creating attractive and informative displays for the cheese department.
- Develop an understanding of pairing cheeses with other products like wines, crackers, and charcuterie.

- A strong passion for food, especially cheese, and a desire to learn.
