Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Materials Engineer to join our dynamic team in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, UK. This is a critical role that will contribute to the integrity and performance of our assets and projects across the energy value chain. As a Materials Engineer, you will be responsible for the selection, specification, and qualification of materials used in our projects and operational assets, ensuring their long-term reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on material selection, specification, and qualification for engineering projects and operational assets.
- Conduct failure analysis, root cause investigations, and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Develop and implement corrosion management strategies and material degradation prevention plans.
- Review and approve material requisitions, data sheets, and technical specifications.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry codes, standards, and company procedures.
- Support research and development initiatives for new materials and technologies.
- Collaborate with design, procurement, construction, and operations teams to optimize material usage and performance.
- Undertake technical assessments and risk evaluations related to material integrity.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in materials engineering within a relevant industrial sector (e.g., oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, renewable energy, manufacturing).
- Strong knowledge of various engineering materials including metals, alloys, polymers, and composites.
- Familiarity with international codes and standards such as ASME, ASTM, NACE, API, BS EN.
- Demonstrated experience in failure analysis, corrosion control, and materials testing.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards it.
- NACE certification (e.g., Corrosion Specialist, Cathodic Protection Specialist).
- Experience with materials selection software and lifecycle management tools.
- Prior experience working on offshore or large-scale industrial projects.
- Project management or supervisory experience.
