Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Materials Engineer to join our dynamic team in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, UK. This is a critical role that will contribute to the integrity and performance of our assets and projects across the energy value chain. As a Materials Engineer, you will be responsible for the selection, specification, and qualification of materials used in our projects and operational assets, ensuring their long-term reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice on material selection, specification, and qualification for engineering projects and operational assets.
  • Conduct failure analysis, root cause investigations, and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and implement corrosion management strategies and material degradation prevention plans.
  • Review and approve material requisitions, data sheets, and technical specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry codes, standards, and company procedures.
  • Support research and development initiatives for new materials and technologies.
  • Collaborate with design, procurement, construction, and operations teams to optimize material usage and performance.
  • Undertake technical assessments and risk evaluations related to material integrity.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in materials engineering within a relevant industrial sector (e.g., oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, renewable energy, manufacturing).
  • Strong knowledge of various engineering materials including metals, alloys, polymers, and composites.
  • Familiarity with international codes and standards such as ASME, ASTM, NACE, API, BS EN.
  • Demonstrated experience in failure analysis, corrosion control, and materials testing.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards it.
  • NACE certification (e.g., Corrosion Specialist, Cathodic Protection Specialist).
  • Experience with materials selection software and lifecycle management tools.
  • Prior experience working on offshore or large-scale industrial projects.
  • Project management or supervisory experience.
