Job Description

We are seeking a talented Operations Research Analyst to join our dynamic team in Reading. In this role, you will be instrumental in applying advanced analytical methods and mathematical modeling to solve complex business problems, optimize processes, and drive strategic decision-making across various functions within Microsoft. You will leverage data-driven insights to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance the overall performance of our operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quantitative models (e.g., optimization, simulation, statistical) to analyze operational processes and inform strategic decisions.
  • Collect, clean, and analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights relevant to business challenges.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to define problems, formulate analytical approaches, and present actionable recommendations.
  • Design and conduct experiments to test hypotheses and evaluate the impact of proposed solutions.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, concise, and compelling presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Continuously research and apply new operations research techniques and technologies to enhance analytical capabilities.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in mathematical modeling, optimization techniques (linear programming, integer programming, network flow), and simulation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Experience with programming languages commonly used in OR/data science (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB).
  • Familiarity with data manipulation and query languages (e.g., SQL).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience with commercial optimization solvers (e.g., Gurobi, CPLEX).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) and big data technologies.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and machine learning techniques.
  • Previous experience in a technology or large-scale operational environment.
