Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and safety-conscious Loading Dock Chock Placer to join our team at the Lancaster Distribution Center. In this crucial outdoor role, you will be responsible for placing and removing safety chocks from tractor-trailer wheels, ensuring trucks are securely immobilized during loading and unloading operations. This position requires constant attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work in varying weather conditions. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals committed to safety and physical work.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely place wheel chocks under the rear wheels of incoming tractor-trailers to prevent accidental movement.
- Verify that chocks are securely positioned before authorizing loading/unloading activities.
- Remove wheel chocks only after confirming that loading/unloading is complete and the truck is clear to depart.
- Communicate effectively with truck drivers, dock supervisors, and loading personnel regarding truck status.
- Conduct visual inspections of chocks and dock areas to identify potential hazards or maintenance needs.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area on the loading dock.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and sun.
- Report any safety incidents or concerns immediately to a supervisor.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, lifting (up to 25 lbs), and standing for extended periods.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
