Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Public Cemetery Groundskeeper to join our team. This respectful outdoor role is vital for maintaining the serene and well-kept appearance of our public cemeteries. You will perform a variety of landscaping and maintenance tasks, ensuring the grounds are always presented with dignity and care. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a deep respect for the significance of your work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine lawn care, including mowing, trimming, edging, and watering.
  • Plant, cultivate, prune, and maintain trees, shrubs, and floral arrangements.
  • Operate and maintain various groundskeeping equipment safely and efficiently (e.g., mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers).
  • Assist with the preparation of burial sites, including digging and backfilling as needed.
  • Ensure pathways and memorials are clean and free of debris.
  • Conduct general upkeep and minor repairs of cemetery infrastructure, such as fences and benches.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and departmental guidelines.
  • Maintain a respectful and professional demeanor at all times, understanding the sensitive nature of the work environment.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques.
  • Familiarity with operating groundskeeping equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers).
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Respectful and empathetic attitude towards visitors and the solemnity of the grounds.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in cemetery maintenance or similar groundskeeping roles.
  • Knowledge of horticulture or plant care.
  • Experience with irrigation systems.
