Job Description
As a Customs & Trade Compliance Intern – International Logistics, you will gain hands-on experience supporting our customs and trade compliance team. This entry-level internship provides a unique opportunity to learn about global trade regulations, import/export processes, and the critical role compliance plays in international supply chains. You will assist with research, data entry, document review, and various tasks aimed at ensuring adherence to all applicable customs laws and trade agreements. This position is ideal for students or recent graduates eager to kickstart a career in international logistics, offering valuable exposure to real-world challenges and solutions within a dynamic environment. Full training will be provided to ensure your success and growth within the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation and review of import/export documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Conduct research on customs regulations, trade agreements, and duties/tariffs across various countries.
- Support the team in classifying goods according to harmonized tariff schedules (HTS) and export control classification numbers (ECCN).
- Help maintain and update compliance records and databases.
- Participate in internal audits and compliance checks under supervision.
- Learn about Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and their application.
- Collaborate with internal departments to gather necessary information for compliance activities.
- Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the compliance team's operations.
Required Skills
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Law, or a related field.
- Strong interest in international trade, customs regulations, and global logistics.
- Excellent research and analytical abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding of import/export operations or customs brokerage concepts.
- Familiarity with HTS classifications or export control regulations (e.g., ITAR, EAR).
- Experience with data entry or database management.
- Knowledge of a second language, especially Spanish or Mandarin.
