Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Public Lands Groundskeeper to join our team in New Glasgow. This vital role involves maintaining the aesthetic appeal and safety of the town’s parks, green spaces, and recreational areas. The successful candidate will perform a variety of groundskeeping tasks, ensuring our public lands are beautiful, well-kept, and enjoyable for all residents and visitors. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks, including mowing, trimming, edging, and weeding.
- Plant, cultivate, and maintain flower beds, shrubs, and trees.
- Operate and maintain a variety of landscaping equipment and tools (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws).
- Assist with irrigation system checks, minor repairs, and watering schedules.
- Conduct daily inspections of public lands, identifying and reporting hazards or maintenance needs.
- Remove litter, debris, and refuse from designated areas.
- Support snow and ice removal efforts during winter months, including shoveling, salting, and operating snow removal equipment.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Interact professionally and courteously with the public and team members.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related field (1-2 years preferred).
- Ability to operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
- Knowledge of basic horticultural practices and plant care.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor, lift heavy objects, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver's License and a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Certification in horticulture, landscaping, or a related trade.
- Experience with minor equipment repair and maintenance.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
