Job Description
The Orange Peel is seeking a highly motivated and physically capable individual to join our production team as a Lighting Technician’s Mate. This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to learn the ropes (literally!) of professional stage lighting, rigging, and climbing in a fast-paced live music environment. You will work closely with our experienced Lighting Technicians, assisting with setup, operation, and teardown of complex lighting systems. A significant part of this role involves working at heights, operating lifts, and mastering various rigging techniques. Full training will be provided to the right candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and a passion for live events.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Lead Lighting Technicians with the installation, focusing, and maintenance of stage lighting fixtures.
- Learn and apply safe climbing and rigging techniques for overhead equipment.
- Operate various types of lifts (scissor lifts, boom lifts) under supervision.
- Help with cable management, power distribution, and equipment inventory.
- Perform pre-show checks and assist during live performances.
- Contribute to the safe and efficient load-in and load-out of production equipment.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and industry best practices for working at heights and with heavy equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment backstage and on the rig.
Required Skills
- Exceptional physical fitness and stamina, capable of lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) and working extended periods on your feet.
- Comfortable working at significant heights and in confined spaces.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn technical concepts quickly.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
- Ability to follow instructions precisely and work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable transportation to and from the venue, often for irregular hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a physically demanding role (e.g., construction, warehouse, theatrical stagehand).
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools.
- Familiarity with concert or theatrical production environments.
- Certification in OSHA 10/30 or other safety training.
- Rope access or climbing experience (personal or professional).
- First Aid/CPR certification.
