Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Museum Curator / Director with a strong focus on international sponsorship to lead our initiatives. This pivotal role involves curating compelling exhibitions, developing strategic international partnerships, and securing significant sponsorship to fund our ambitious cultural exchange programs. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of museum operations, a proven track record in fundraising, and exceptional diplomatic skills to engage with diverse international stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic plans for international cultural exchange programs and exhibitions.
- Identify, cultivate, and secure international sponsorships and grants to support foundation initiatives.
- Curate innovative and engaging museum exhibitions that showcase Nova Scotian heritage and foster international dialogue.
- Manage all aspects of exhibition development, from concept to installation, including budget and logistics.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with international museums, galleries, cultural organizations, and diplomatic missions.
- Oversee the care, conservation, and interpretation of the Foundation's collections relevant to international programs.
- Lead and mentor a small team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Represent the Foundation at international conferences, events, and networking opportunities.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in museum curatorship or cultural institution directorship.
- Demonstrated success in securing significant international sponsorships or grants.
- Strong understanding of cultural diplomacy and international relations.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages is a strong asset.
- Ability to travel internationally as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Museum Studies, Art History, Cultural Management, or a related field.
- Experience working with diverse cultural collections and communities.
- Established network within international museum and cultural sectors.
- Prior experience with digital exhibition platforms and virtual cultural exchange programs.
