Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Scrub Nurse to join our dedicated theatre team at Spire Nottingham Hospital. As a Scrub Nurse, you will play a crucial role in assisting surgeons during operations, ensuring the operating theatre is safe, efficient, and well-equipped. You will be responsible for preparing the theatre, handling instruments, and providing direct support to the surgical team, upholding the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating theatre and sterile instruments for surgical procedures.
  • Assist surgeons and surgical teams during operations by passing instruments and supplies.
  • Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
  • Monitor and manage surgical equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure accurate counts of instruments, swabs, and needles.
  • Provide direct patient care in the theatre setting, ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Document all aspects of nursing care accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and relevant clinical guidelines.
  • Participate in theatre team meetings and continuous professional development.

Required Skills

  • Registered Nurse (RN) qualification with active NMC registration.
  • Proven experience as a Scrub Nurse in a surgical setting.
  • Excellent knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation.
  • Strong understanding of infection control and sterile techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-basic qualification in Operating Department Practice (ODP) or Perioperative Care.
  • Experience across a range of surgical specialities (e.g., orthopaedics, general surgery, gynaecology).
  • Experience in a private healthcare setting.
