Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Gamekeeper Assistant to join our estate team. This entry-level role is perfect for someone passionate about wildlife, conservation, and traditional country pursuits. You will work closely with our Head Gamekeeper, learning all aspects of game and habitat management on a diverse estate. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal opportunity for individuals with little to no prior professional experience but a strong desire to learn and grow within the field of gamekeeping.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Gamekeeper with daily duties, including feeding and monitoring game birds and other wildlife.
- Participate in habitat management tasks, such as clearing undergrowth, planting cover crops, and maintaining water sources.
- Support in predator control activities under strict guidance and supervision.
- Aid in the upkeep and maintenance of estate infrastructure, including tracks, fences, and equipment.
- Assist during shooting days, including beat-keeping, retrieving, and general support.
- Maintain accurate records of game numbers, feed consumption, and other relevant data.
- Ensure the welfare and health of all game and livestock on the estate.
- Learn and adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations and best practices.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for wildlife, the countryside, and conservation.
- Excellent work ethic and willingness to learn new skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and undertake physically demanding tasks.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a small team.
- Basic understanding of animal welfare principles.
- Full UK driving license (or provisional with a strong commitment to obtaining full license).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in an outdoor or rural environment (e.g., farming, forestry, volunteering).
- Basic knowledge of local flora and fauna.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with basic tools and machinery.
