Job Description
Join Raytheon Missiles & Defense as a Materials Engineer in our advanced facility in Tucson, Arizona. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the selection, characterization, and application of materials for various defense systems. You will work within a dynamic team to ensure materials meet stringent performance, reliability, and cost requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Research, select, and specify materials for aerospace and defense applications.
- Conduct material characterization using various analytical techniques (e.g., SEM, EDS, XRD, mechanical testing).
- Analyze material failures and provide root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Develop and implement material processing techniques and specifications.
- Collaborate with design engineers, manufacturing teams, and suppliers to integrate materials into product designs.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation on material properties and performance.
- Stay current with advancements in materials science and engineering.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Proven experience with material characterization techniques and equipment (minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience).
- Knowledge of various material classes (metals, ceramics, polymers, composites).
- Ability to analyze complex technical problems and propose solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with aerospace and defense industry material standards (e.g., MIL-SPECs, ASTM).
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Materials Science or related field.
- Experience with advanced composite materials or additive manufacturing.
- Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) for material performance prediction.
- Prior experience in a defense or aerospace environment.
- Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one.
