Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Brewmaster / Head Brewer to lead our brewing operations at L’Île Ouest Brasserie. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to take full ownership of our brewing process, from recipe development to packaging, ensuring the highest standards of quality and consistency. The ideal candidate will be a creative innovator, a meticulous technician, and an inspiring leader. This position includes sponsorship for qualified international candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of brewing operations, including raw material sourcing, wort production, fermentation, conditioning, filtration, and packaging.
- Develop and refine new beer recipes, ensuring a diverse and exciting portfolio that aligns with market trends and brand identity.
- Manage and mentor a small team of brewers and cellar staff, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Implement and maintain rigorous quality control procedures throughout the entire brewing process, including sensory evaluation and lab analysis.
- Manage inventory of raw materials, finished products, and brewing supplies.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Oversee routine maintenance and troubleshooting of brewing equipment.
- Monitor fermentation and conditioning processes, making adjustments as necessary to achieve desired beer profiles.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing teams on new product launches and brand representation.
- Manage brewing schedules and production targets to meet demand effectively.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of professional brewing experience in a leadership role (e.g., Head Brewer, Lead Brewer, Brewmaster).
- Proven expertise in recipe formulation and new product development.
- In-depth knowledge of brewing science, yeast management, and fermentation principles.
- Strong understanding of quality control procedures and lab analysis techniques.
- Experience with brewery equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to manage and motivate a brewing team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in English (French is an asset).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Brewing Science, Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Formal brewing education or certifications (e.g., IBD Diploma, Siebel Institute, Brewlab).
- Experience with brewery management software.
- Knowledge of Canadian brewing regulations and market trends.
- First Aid and Forklift certification.
