Job Description
Are you eager to launch your career in surveying and land management? Stantec is seeking a motivated Trainee Surveying Technician to join our team in Lake Charles, LA, supporting projects for various governmental departments, including the Department of Lands. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals with no prior experience in surveying who are keen to learn and grow within a dynamic professional environment. You will receive comprehensive on-the-job training from experienced professionals, developing essential skills in field surveying, data collection, and equipment operation. This role is fundamental to ensuring accurate land records, supporting infrastructure development, and managing natural resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced Surveying Technicians and Party Chiefs in conducting various types of land surveys, including boundary, topographic, and construction surveys.
- Learn to set up, operate, and maintain surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors.
- Participate in field measurements, data recording, and note-taking activities.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and company guidelines on all job sites.
- Assist with the loading, unloading, and cleaning of equipment and vehicles.
- Perform basic computations and checks of field data under supervision.
- Contribute to maintaining organized field files and documentation.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Eagerness to learn and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Good physical condition and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Basic mathematical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all safety procedures.
