Job Description
Are you looking for an exciting entry-level opportunity in public service with no prior experience required? VIA Rail Canada is seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals to join our team as Train Station Platform Attendants in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. This is a full-time, on-site position where you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of our passengers. Key Responsibilities
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking trains, ensuring their safety and guiding them to appropriate platforms.
- Provide clear and concise information to passengers regarding train schedules, platform changes, and general station inquiries.
- Monitor platform areas for passenger safety, identifying and addressing potential hazards or issues.
- Offer assistance to passengers with special needs, including those with mobility challenges or requiring extra support.
- Communicate effectively with train crews and station management to ensure smooth operations.
- Respond to passenger questions and concerns with professionalism and a helpful attitude.
- Perform routine checks of platform equipment and report any malfunctions or damage.
- Maintain a clean and orderly platform environment.
Required Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and assist passengers with luggage.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- No prior experience in rail or customer service is required; full training will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in a public-facing role or service industry (volunteer or paid).
- Basic knowledge of local geography.
- Proficiency in French is an asset.
