Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic team in Swansea. The successful candidate will be instrumental in optimizing manufacturing processes, improving efficiency, and ensuring the highest quality standards for our diverse product lines. This role involves working closely with production teams, R&D, and quality assurance to implement lean manufacturing principles and drive continuous improvement initiatives. You will be responsible for developing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement optimal manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts.
- Identify and implement improvements to existing manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement activities using methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Quality, Production) to ensure successful new product introductions and process transfers.
- Perform root cause analysis for manufacturing issues and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, and control plans.
- Specify and procure new equipment, tooling, and fixtures as required to support manufacturing operations.
- Monitor and analyze manufacturing data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and environmental regulations and standards.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding and application of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proficiency in process design, optimization, and problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience with automated manufacturing systems and robotics.
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE).
- Familiarity with ISO quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Experience in the chemical, healthcare, or advanced materials manufacturing sectors.
