Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Archaeologist / Heritage Manager to join our growing team in Caerphilly. This pivotal role involves managing archaeological projects, overseeing fieldwork, conducting post-excavation analysis, and providing expert heritage advice. You will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with archaeological planning conditions and contributing to the wider understanding of Wales’ rich historical landscape. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage archaeological projects from inception to completion, including planning, fieldwork, and post-excavation phases.
  • Oversee and mentor field teams, ensuring adherence to best practices and health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct detailed archaeological assessments, evaluations, and excavations.
  • Produce high-quality archaeological reports, publications, and impact assessments.
  • Liaise with clients, planning authorities, heritage bodies (e.g., Cadw, RCAHMW), and other stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice on heritage management issues, including policy and legislation.
  • Contribute to tendering for new projects and business development activities.
  • Ensure project deliverables are met on time and within budget.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in archaeological fieldwork and project management.
  • Strong understanding of UK archaeological planning policy and legislation (specifically Welsh context is a plus).
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in GIS and archaeological recording techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Full UK driving license (or equivalent, with willingness to obtain)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Archaeology, Heritage Management, or a related field.
  • Membership in the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) at Associate or Member level.
  • Experience with commercial archaeology in Wales.
  • Knowledge of Welsh language and culture.
