Job Description

Alter Metal Recycling in Green Bay, WI, is seeking a motivated and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a Junkyard Magnet Operator (Trainee). This is an outstanding entry-level opportunity for someone eager to learn heavy machinery operation and contribute to our recycling efforts. We provide comprehensive, hands-on training for the right candidate, ensuring you develop the skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate our equipment. You will be instrumental in sorting and moving scrap metal using specialized magnet-equipped machinery, playing a crucial role in our operational flow. No prior experience is required – just a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and a desire to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undergo comprehensive training on the safe operation of heavy machinery equipped with magnetic attachments.
  • Operate magnet-equipped machinery to sort, load, and move various types of scrap metal within the junkyard.
  • Assist in maintaining an organized and efficient yard, ensuring materials are placed in designated areas.
  • Conduct pre-operation and post-operation checks on equipment, reporting any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and procedures, including PPE requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding operational status and safety concerns.
  • Perform general labor duties as needed to support yard operations.

Required Skills

  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor industrial environment, often exposed to varying weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, lift up to 50 lbs, and stand for extended periods.
  • Eagerness and aptitude to learn new skills and operate heavy equipment.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Basic communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Previous experience in a labor-intensive role or industrial environment (not required, but a plus).
