Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Sommelier Assistant / Wine Server to join our esteemed food and beverage team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for wine and hospitality to develop their career in an upscale hotel environment. You will work closely with our Head Sommelier, assisting in all aspects of wine service, inventory management, and guest education, ensuring a seamless and memorable dining experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Sommelier in managing and maintaining the wine cellar and inventory.
- Provide expert wine recommendations to guests, understanding their preferences and pairing with menu items.
- Perform professional wine service, including decanting and pouring, in accordance with hotel standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the wine bar, cellar, and service areas.
- Learn about new wines, vintages, and regions, continuously expanding product knowledge.
- Assist with wine ordering, receiving, and stock rotation.
- Contribute to the development of wine lists and promotional materials.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
Required Skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong passion for wine and a desire to learn.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Basic knowledge of different wine types and regions (training provided).
- Ability to lift and carry wine cases (up to 20kg).
- Fluent in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a hospitality or fine dining setting.
- Basic certification from a recognized wine education program (e.g., WSET Level 1).
- Knowledge of point-of-sale systems.
- Ability to speak multiple languages.
