Job Description
Join our esteemed team as a Sommelier Assistant / Wine Server at our new upscale hotel in Ilupeju. This pivotal role supports our lead sommelier in managing our extensive wine collection, providing exceptional wine service to guests, and ensuring an unforgettable dining experience. You will be instrumental in guiding guests through our curated wine list, recommending pairings, and maintaining the highest standards of wine presentation and storage. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual to grow their expertise in a vibrant and luxurious environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Sommelier in managing the hotel's wine inventory, including ordering, receiving, and storage.
- Provide professional and knowledgeable wine service to guests in all dining outlets, recommending wines that complement their meal choices.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date knowledge of our wine list, including vintages, regions, and tasting notes.
- Ensure proper handling, decanting, and serving of wines according to established standards.
- Assist with monthly wine inventory counts and stock rotation.
- Contribute to the training and development of serving staff on wine knowledge and service.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of wine cellars, storage areas, and wine service equipment.
- Handle guest inquiries and feedback regarding wine selections with professionalism and courtesy.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for wine and spirits.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, upscale dining environment.
- Basic understanding of wine regions, varietals, and food pairings.
- Impeccable grooming and professional presentation.
- Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
- Ability to lift and carry cases of wine.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from a recognized wine education program (e.g., WSET Level 1 or 2, Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory Sommelier).
- Previous experience in an upscale hotel or fine dining restaurant.
- Multilingual skills (especially French or other European languages).
- Knowledge of point-of-sale (POS) systems.
