Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Urology Nurse Specialist to join our dynamic healthcare team in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care within our urology department. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients with a wide range of urological conditions. You will work collaboratively with urologists, other specialists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient management. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to patient education, clinical pathways, and the ongoing development of our urology services. A Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) is available for eligible international candidates who meet the requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert nursing care to patients with urological conditions, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs and medical directives.
- Educate patients and their families on urological conditions, treatment options, medication management, and self-care techniques.
- Assist with urological procedures and examinations, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Manage patient appointments, referrals, and follow-up care efficiently.
- Monitor and evaluate patient progress, making adjustments to care plans as necessary.
- Collaborate with urologists, residents, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and integrated care.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
- Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and professional development activities.
- Adhere to all NSHA policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
Required Skills
- Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) or eligibility for registration.
- Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in a urology or related surgical specialty.
- Demonstrated knowledge of urological conditions, treatments, and nursing interventions.
- Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
- Specialty certification in Urology Nursing (e.g., CURN, NU-C).
- Experience in patient education and counseling.
- Familiarity with Cerner PowerChart EHR system.
