Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Cartographer / GIS Specialist to join our team in Llanelli. This role is crucial for managing and visualizing our extensive water and wastewater network data. As a GIS Specialist, you will be instrumental in creating, maintaining, and analyzing geographical information systems and maps that inform our operational decisions and strategic planning. You will work with cutting-edge GIS technology to support various departments, ensuring the accuracy and accessibility of our geospatial data assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, update, and maintain accurate geospatial datasets related to water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Produce high-quality maps, charts, and spatial analyses for internal stakeholders and external reports.
- Perform data quality control and validation to ensure the integrity of GIS information.
- Assist with the design and implementation of new GIS applications and tools.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field teams to provide geospatial insights and support.
- Research and integrate diverse spatial data sources into our existing GIS environment.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation and metadata for geospatial datasets.
- Participate in field data collection efforts as required.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geomatics, Cartography, GIS, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of professional experience working with GIS software and spatial data management.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Desktop/Pro, QGIS, or similar GIS platforms.
- Demonstrable experience in cartographic principles and map production.
- Strong understanding of spatial data formats, projections, and coordinate systems.
- Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex geospatial information clearly and effectively.
- Eligibility for UK sponsorship and a commitment to a long-term career.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant geospatial discipline.
- Experience with FME, Python scripting for GIS, or database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle Spatial).
- Knowledge of utility infrastructure or environmental regulations.
- Familiarity with web GIS technologies (e.g., ArcGIS Online, Leaflet, OpenLayers).
- Previous experience working within a regulated industry or public utility.
