Job Description
Are you passionate about mechanics and looking for a hands-on career opportunity with no prior experience required? The City of Nashua Department of Public Works is seeking a motivated and eager individual to join our team as a Trainee Fleet Mechanic through a comprehensive Apprenticeship Program. This is a unique chance to learn the trade from experienced professionals, specializing in the maintenance and repair of vital government vehicles. You will gain practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and a pathway to a rewarding career, all while contributing to public service. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in all training sessions and mentorship activities.
- Assist certified mechanics with routine vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Learn to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues under supervision.
- Perform basic tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and workplace regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Document work performed and parts used accurately.
- Demonstrate a strong eagerness to learn and apply new skills.
- Contribute positively to a team-oriented workshop setting.
Required Skills

- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Physical ability to perform tasks requiring lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

- Basic understanding of hand and power tools (not required, but a plus).
- Prior experience in an automotive class or hobby mechanics (not required).
