Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Grounds Maintenance Worker / Trainee Gardener to join our Facilities Management team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, are eager to learn, and wish to develop a career in horticulture and groundskeeping. You will be instrumental in ensuring our campus remains pristine and aesthetically pleasing year-round. Full training will be provided for all aspects of the role, making this an ideal entry point for anyone passionate about outdoor work and gardening.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance tasks including mowing, trimming, weeding, and watering.
- Assist with planting, cultivating, and caring for flowers, shrubs, and trees.
- Operate and maintain various landscaping equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
- Participate in seasonal duties such as leaf removal, snow removal, and ice management.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of campus grounds, pathways, and outdoor common areas.
- Support senior gardeners and groundskeepers in larger landscaping projects.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards promptly.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to perform strenuous outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic and a positive, eager-to-learn attitude.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of tools and equipment operation (or willingness to learn).
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
- Reliable and punctual.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance or gardening (even personal experience) is a plus but not required.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent) is an asset.
- Knowledge of basic plant care and horticulture principles.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
