Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Community Development Officer to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial in planning, developing, and implementing community-based projects and programs that align with the City’s strategic goals. You will work closely with community groups, local businesses, and government agencies to identify needs, build capacity, and deliver initiatives that empower our diverse population and enrich our local environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Identify community needs and opportunities for development through research, consultation, and data analysis.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement a range of community development programs and projects.
  • Engage with diverse community groups, organisations, and stakeholders to foster strong partnerships.
  • Secure funding and resources for community initiatives through grant applications and sponsorship.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of community development projects, preparing reports and recommendations.
  • Advise and support community groups in their own development efforts and capacity building.
  • Promote community participation and civic engagement in local government processes.
  • Manage project budgets and resources efficiently and transparently.
  • Ensure all projects comply with relevant policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in community development or a related field (minimum 3 years).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and evaluate community projects.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Sound understanding of local government functions and community service delivery.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Community Development, Social Sciences, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within a local government environment.
  • Knowledge of the Mandurah community and its demographics.
  • Experience in grant writing and fundraising.
