Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate International Student Advisor to join our dynamic team at the University of Arkansas. This crucial role involves providing comprehensive advising services to our international student population on immigration regulations, cultural adjustment, academic success, and personal well-being. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, an understanding of F-1 and J-1 visa regulations, and a genuine desire to support students from diverse backgrounds. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise international students and scholars on U.S. immigration regulations (F-1 and J-1 visas) and institutional policies.
- Process and issue immigration documents (I-20, DS-2019) for new and continuing international students.
- Conduct orientation programs and workshops for new international students.
- Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).
- Assist students with cultural adjustment, academic challenges, and personal concerns.
- Collaborate with various university departments to ensure international student success and integration.
- Maintain accurate student records and ensure compliance with federal regulations.
- Stay current with changes in immigration law and best practices in international education.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., International Relations, Education, Counseling)
- One year of experience working with international students or in a related advising capacity
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status (required for DSO/ARO designation)
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field
- Experience with SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System)
- Fluency in a second language
- Experience studying, living, or working abroad
