Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Trainee Environmental Health Officer to join our dynamic public health team. Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a structured training program designed to develop expertise in environmental health practices.
- Assist experienced Environmental Health Officers in conducting inspections and investigations related to food safety, housing, water quality, waste management, and public nuisances.
- Learn to interpret and apply relevant environmental health legislation, regulations, and guidelines.
- Support the collection of samples and data for analysis, maintaining accurate records and reports.
- Engage with community members and businesses to provide advice and educate on best environmental health practices.
- Prepare and present findings, recommendations, and enforcement actions under supervision.
- Contribute to public health campaigns and initiatives, fostering a healthier Lexington.
- Undertake continuous professional development as required by the role and our department standards.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Strong interest in public health, environmental protection, or related fields.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new information and procedures.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Valid Kentucky driver's license or ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a science-related field (e.g., biology, chemistry, public health, environmental science).
- Experience in customer service or community engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
